How it works

1. The goal of DeSci QF is to raise awareness for Decentralized Science projects via democratic funding mechanisms

2. Fundraising, operations and co-marketing is conducted by Operators and community-elected Round Stewards who are responsible for overlooking the applications and managing the funds

3. Stewards get rewarded during the Round by donations to the project “DeSci Stewardship” exluding matching funds

4. Responsibilities include smooth operations: fundraising, drating eligibility criteria, project selection, sybill analysis, community engagement and distribution of funds

6. Gitcoin Allo Protocol & Grants Stack will be used for distribution (selected projects has to follow Gitcoin Rules)

In the previous community-driven Decentralized Science Round on Gitcoin, there was significant demand for Science and Hardware applications in various domains. This round also laid the groundwork for the DeSci QF. With the current momentum in the Web3 market, the project aims to fund public goods related to Science using Quadratic Funding.

Startups and research projects often face challenges in securing initial funding and public awareness. For Public Goods projects, such as Open Science, funding challenges can hinder long-term independence and the acceleration of innovative inventions and technologies.

The rising popularity of DeSci presents an opportunity to establish a platform that unifies the broader DeSci ecosystem.

Decentralized science (DeSci) is a movement that aims to build public infrastructure for funding, creating, reviewing, crediting, storing, and disseminating scientific knowledge fairly and equitably using the Web3 stack.

A Public Good is non-excludable and non-rivalrous. In the context of the "DeSci Quadratic Fund", it refers to projects that benefit the broader decentralized science community.

Quadratic Funding (QF) is a democratic funding method for public goods. It prioritizes the number of contributors over the amount contributed, ensuring projects with broad community support receive appropriate funding.
